Italian Design Day 2023 In Ljubljana as part of the BIG Architecture Festival.
The VII Italian Design Day was celebrated in Ljubljana with a conference by Architect Giulia Fini, Professor of Technique and Urban Planning at the University of Udine, "Italian 2023 Ambassador of Design" for Slovenia. To give greater relevance to the event and create useful synergies on site, this year the conference took place within the traditional "BIG Architecture" Festival. The underlying theme of BIG Architecture 2023 "The future is watching you" was therefore combined with the theme of IDD 2023: "The quality that lights up. The energy of design for people and the environment”.
The energy of design can influence the conditions and spaces of our lives both as individuals and as a community: from public places, places of work and mobility to our homes. Therefore, by inserting the event within BIG Architecture, the intention was to highlight that quality is an indispensable tool for dealing with contemporary challenges and trying to respond today to future needs.
The BIG Architecture Festival, organized by Big SEE, has been for over 15 years the most important event in this field in Slovenia and is dedicated to architects, interior designers, engineers, real estate developers, investment consultants, project leaders, urban planners, decision makers public and real estate investors. In addition to spaces for exhibitors, during the Festival every year a number of awards are delivered to architects/designers from the South-Eastern Europe area, selected according to the various topics covered. This year, Italy has been selected for 47 awards.
The Conference was organized by the Italian Trade Agency’s Office in Ljubljana as part of the "Integrated Promotion" initiatives, with the participation and coordination of the Embassy of Italy in Slovenia. The Italian testimonial was joined by a prestigious Slovenian counterpart: Prof. Polona Filipič Gorenšek, professor and Member of the Academic Council of the Department of Urban Planning at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Ljubljana. During the debate, the two architects discussed about the regeneration of urban spaces, a topical issue for Italy and Slovenia, as both countries have been committed for years to identifying green solutions and sustainable answers for a fair and sustainable urban development.
