It is an intangible heritage whose missing piece is being filled by Castori through the bespoke craftsmanship of its exclusive shoes made in Campania. This land has always been a fertile ground for skilled shoemakers, mainly specializing in women’s shoes as well as “third party” manufacturing for men.
With Castori a fresh Campania-style is born, based on the principles of Neapolitan tailoring: lightness and sensuality, with a pinch of sass.
The brand Castori was born in 2008 by the will and ability of the Salerno-entrepreneur, Vito Viscido, whose background and long history in the clothing industry drove his desire to pay homage to his origins by shaping the ideal shoe.
The shoes are fruit of a deep appreciation of beauty that the entrepreneur breathes and cultivates in the family since childhood, with knowledge that a product has a value, not a price.
It is Vito Viscido’s maternal grandfather Carlo who imparted his passion for footwear. Young Vito, in his grandfather’s house, lovingly watched as he pulled his shoes out of the closet with love; he cleaned, polished and had them resoled. They were all custom-made shoes, and nobody could touch them. “The shoes come alive when you polish them” said grandfather Carlo, who willingly avoided dirt roads, preferring the paved ones, as not to ruin his shoes. He repeatedly told his grandson: “Vito! Life is like shoes: few things, but well-made! “
His grandfather’s masterpieces were kept in a shoe cabinet, under lock and key.
The key’s handle is now the logo of the Castori brand: a symbol of knowledge, perseverance and curiosity.
Craftsmanship, attention to detail, excellence in manual workmanship, neoclassicism of the approach and with an aesthetic perspective. Noticeable at first glance of a Castori shoe is the patina. They come in a vast array of colors; from the customized leather soles in Pompeii red, symbol of blood and passion from which everything originates, to the uppers, which in addition to the more classical colors can be painted in blue, like the sea, or in green, like the woods. All premium raw materials, including precious leather from alligators, are polished by hand.
Tradition and innovation are in unison throughout the laborious workmanship. The result is a contemporary, comfortable and malleable shoe due to Goodyear and Norwegian craftsmanship. Furthermore, Castori shoes can be lined in cashmere or double-face fur.
Every Castori specimen is designed to give the performance for which it was designed and the sensations for which it was chosen.
Castori’s production is multifaceted: it develops into various worlds within which the customer can find the product best suited to their needs.
The name of each world is associated with an archaeological site in the Campania region, of which approximately 4 collections are permanent, iconic over time, while others are frequently updated.The classic model and the sneaker are equally versatile, and can be artfully adapted by the customer to suit the dress code required by the occasion. Sports models feature the same level of finish as the more formal ones. Shoe polishing products and shoe trees from natural wood are also available upon request.
