Il Chitosano è considerato uno stimolatore delle difese delle piante, poichè induce nella pianta uno stato di tensione immunitaria che la rende pronta ad eventuali attacchi patogeni. Esso, infatti, viene riconosciuto come sostanza esterna tipica di funghi e insetti patogeni permettendo alla pianta di attivare una serie di reazioni strutturali e chimiche per contrastare un attacco che in realtà non è avvenuto. La sua azione è paragonabile a quella di un vaccino per l'uomo.

CHITOSAN - BASIC SUBSTANCE
Chitosan is one of the few naturally occurring cationic polymers and, as such, it is used in a wide range of applications.
SKL Chitosan is extracted from crustacean exoskeletons and is regulated by the European Community as a Basic Substance. It is indicated for agricultural use as a biostimulant and as an enhancer of plants’ endogenous defense mechanisms, for both vegetable and fruit crops.
When applied to crops either by foliar application or seed treatment, SKL Chitosan increases, within a few hours after treatment, the levels of endogenous hormones, in particular indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) (a very important plant growth hormone closely related to root development) and gibberellic acid (which promotes the formation of lateral shoots, regulates fruit growth, induces mitosis, etc.).
This process stimulates the plant to autonomously defend itself against attacks from external pathogens.
For this reason, Chitosan treatments must be carried out preventively and not curatively.
