Atar, Susumaniello IGP Valle d'Itria
Susumaniello is a native grape variety, cultivated in Apulia only, in Salento and the Itria Valley. Susumaniello's name has an interesting history. It is derived from somarello, meaning "donkey", presumably because – just like the donkeys once used for transporting the grape harvest – this high-yielding variety is capable of bearing remarkably heavy loads. It ranks among the world's rarest wine grapes and this red Susumaniello wine has a deep ruby hue and aromas of red berries and plums.
