PIANDIMARE

Piandimare, is a small cooperative of growers, based in Abruzzo, between the territory of Pescara and Chieti, in one of the most important valley for the cultivation of Montepulciano D'Abruzzo grapes.

Our winery, recently built with the best technologies, is surrounded by vineyards in the south face of the valley. An extraordinary valley where our vines grow, all located at a small distance, in order to preserve the freshly picked grapes.

The Val di Foro is a valley nestled between the Majella and the Adriatic sea. It's a unique micro-climate. This is a place where the gentle sea breeze freshens the grapes during the hot summer days and blow the humidity away. This creates the perfect environment for the cultivation of a special grape such as Montepulciano.

From the very beginning the winery was designed with the intention of merging it with the surrounding territory, in order to reduce the visual and environmental impact as much as possible.

The roof, with its distinctive wave shape, represents the three most important elements for us: the sea and its cool breeze, the hills that surround us, and the wine swinging in the glass.

This land is like a theatre made with slopes, where the Montepulciano lies and enjoys the show: the winemaking. It's like a thalamus where the sea and the mountain meet.

We decided to dedicate ourselves to one single grape variety, the one which represents us, our territory, and our fathers' tradition. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is one the most renowned and typical grapes in Italy. Just like its name implies, it was born in this very land. A very late ripening together with a strong tannic structure express a great aromatic complexity. Our agronomists, from the end of September onwards, visit the vineyards every single day, in order to be sure about the perfect conditions of the grapes' ripening.

At Piandimare, we never cease to innovate and research. We started five years ago to work to avoid as much as possible any environmental impact.
We first eliminated the use of any chemical herbicides. All our members have adopted the use of techniques such as the sexual confusion or the partial removal of chemical substances that attack directly the plant's lymph.

Some of our vineyards are already cultivated with the SQNPI system, and some others are indeed organic certified. With such an extent it's not always easy to have total control, but we keep working hard every day, in order to convert all our hectares to an organic certified production. We strongly believe this is an essential goal, not only for making our own activity more sustainable, but also for giving even more balance to our vineyards, which will improve further the quality of the products.

Blue just like the sea that during summers and winters help us mitigate the temperature. And to the sea we dedicated this label, as a symbol of its significance in the ripening process.

Grapes: Montepulciano d’Abruzzo .

Long fermentation on the skins. Racking and aging for at least nine months in steel and six months in the bottle. A genuine wine representing the good quality of the vine. With its typical Montepulciano aromas, it is an everyday pleasure.

Maja is not just a wine, is not just a label.

Maja is the peak that protects us, the mountain that donates this extraordinary environment and grapes. Our desire is to dedicate this great wine to the Majella, the mountain that every evening, at sunset, watches over us.

Grapes: Montepulciano d’Abruzzo

We harvested the grapes at the end of October. Long fermentation with controlled temperature. This is our great tribute to our land and to the Majella mountain. A persistent wine with many nuances and a balanced acidity. Elegant and complex, aged in small barriques of new French wood for more than 2 years.
