Orefice Vini

The name of our winery, Orefice, is inspired in its meaning: goldsmith in English as the one who works with precious metals and gems, so we work with care and passion our vineyards which are located in the heart of Abruzzo on beautiful hills of ancient winemaking tradition around Ortona.

Orefice Vini was set up by five friends, Giuseppe, Mirko, Emore, Maurizio and Francesco each of whom has a different story to tell and yet, each of them has a common denominator, which is nothing less than an unbreakable bond with the world of wine, which is inspired by a long winemaking tradition that has been handed down for several generations committed to the love of the land and its harvest. The bond between the members led them to come together as a group and create Orefice vini that represents history, land and dreams, all together in a glass of wine.

Our production focuses mainly on native grape varieties: Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Pecorino, Passerina and Coccociola, plus a small percentage of other varieties. Our goal is to respect the 'identity and character of each grape variety, so that each one is different and precious as a jewel, ambassador of our land to the world.

The vineyards are located about 300 meters above sea level and enjoy a wide diurnal range that helps the grapes to ripen fully. Warmer daytime temperatures favour sugar development, while cool nights help preserve aromas, freshness and acidity.

Orefice Vini is able to produce wines with unique characteristics: concentration of aromas and flavours due to a wide diurnal range, which has an important implication on the quality, structure and balance of the wines. Whites tend to be fresh, crispy, and savoury on the palate. On the nose they express notes of floral, citrus and stone fruits with mineral nuances. Our reds are fresh and elegant with velvety tannins, with hints of ripe red fruit, floral and spicy notes on the nose. Rosé wines express aromas of fresh red fruit, and are fruity, fresh and savoury on the palate.

The passion and experience inherited from our grandparents inspires us and allows us to produce wines of outstanding quality: unique, expressive and elegant, capable of conquering the world's most diverse palates.

We are part of one of the most beautiful wine regions in the world, and we recognize the inestimable value of our lands and observe their natural time line. For each of us, respect for the environment and nature is a fundamental principle, which is reflected in our choice of raw materials and the quality of our products.

Vaticino is the outcome of a late harvest and long maceration on the skins wine. The 12-month aging in barrels gives it a splendid structure but does not weigh it down. Vaticino is an intense ruby red wine, on the nose reminiscent of dried flowers and red fruit jam emerges a pleasant spiciness of liquorice black pepper, cloves and vanilla with hints of coffee and tobacco. On the palate it is intense, sensual and mouth-filling, with great freshness. The tannins are velvety; the finish reminds of black cherry jam. A wine of magnificent structure and long length.

Orefice Montepulciano is a ruby red color with violet hues wine. On the nose, intense notes of wild berries, cherry, black cherry and wild blackberry can be perceived, with a very light spicy nuance. Fresh, fruity and jammy on the palate, its soft tannins give great drinkability and pleasantness. A wine of splendid structure and balance.

Wine to be paired with earthy first courses, it also goes well with red meat based courses, excellent with braised and roasted meats. Outstanding paired with starters based on cured meats and semi-mature cheeses; first and second courses, medium-structured and not too fatty.

The name of the wine “Cerasuolo” derives from the typical color of the cherry, called Cerasa in Abruzzi dialect.

Orefice Cerasuolo is an intense and bright cherry pink wine. On the nose, it releases notes of cherry, wild strawberries and currants, and delicate hints of rose. The sip is driven by an 'excellent freshness and savouriness. On the palate it is crispy and juicy. In addition, its barely noticeable tannin makes a well-structured and long finish wine.

Due to its remarkable territorial adherence, Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo pairs perfectly with traditional Abruzzo dishes such as fish soup "brodetto di pesce alla Vastese," legume soups, cheese boards and assorted local cured meats. Excellent with aperitifs, pasta dishes, pizzas and white meats. In addition, its versatility allows it to be paired with spicy food and ethnic cuisine.

Coccociola is a pale straw yellow wine with golden highlights. On the nose, floral and citrus notes are perceived with slight herbaceous hints. On the palate, it surprises us with its great freshness and mineral character. A vibrant and tireless sip that closes beautifully with a pleasant savoury note.

Its great freshness makes it suitable to be paired with 'aperitifs, seafood appetizers, especially raw fish. In fact, it is lovely with sushi and dishes with delicate flavours. It goes well with fresh cheeses and first courses based on vegetables and fish.

Trebbiano is a straw yellow with greenish reflections wine. The bouquet expresses aromas of yellow flesh fruits: pear and peach. It also has floral notes of chamomile and hay. On the palate, it has an irresistible freshness and is fruity with an intriguing savory persistence, which is enhanced by mineral notes and it closes with a slight hint of bitter almond. A well-structured and balanced wine.

Trebbiano pairs elegantly with seafood appetizers, first courses such as spaghetti with clams or tagliatelle butter and sage, risotto alla marinara and legume or fish-based soups. Excellent paired with main courses of white meat, baked preparations, and fresh aged cheeses.
