VINUM HADRIANUM

Vinum Hadrianum was born in 2018 in Atri, to bring to new life an ancient
story, to guide the enological renaissance of the former land of Hatria and
reconnect antique suggestions to refined and contemporary styles of drinking wine.
Terracotta amphorae play a leading role in the vinification process, maceration and aging of wines. We replicated the massive terracotta amphoras used to age and store wines 2000 years ago. Our amphorae are hand-built by local master artisans with the same precious clay of which the vineyards are made.
The range of wines of Vinum Hadrianum includes historical Abruzzo vines
such as Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Pecorino, Passerina and Montonico and
Malvasia.

This wine comes from historical grape Montepulciano, which has always been synonymous with Abruzzo. Maximus was an ancient Roman family, that once had an influential role in our region.

The name Publicius belongs to an important family of imperial Rome. The strain, according to some scholars, has its roots in our Hatria. This wine, obtained from the vinification of only Montepulciano d'Abruzzo grapes, is immediately recognizable for its particular cherry color, fruit called "cirisce" or "cirasce" in Abruzzo dialect, hence the name Cerasuolo.

The name Pontius refers to the homonymous Samnite family from which descended Pontius Pilato, whose birthplace can be traced back to the town of Bisenti (TE). The ancient Palestine Piceni is also the homeland of the Montonico vine.

CAECILIA PECORINO COLLI APRUTINI IGT
Via Cecilia (Latin: Via Caecilia) was an ancient Roman road that reached the Adriatic coast from Rome. Its path ran along Amiternum in the plain of L'Aquila and also reached our city of Hatria.

Our CAECILIA is made with 100% Pecorino grape, handpicked in September 2022. It pairs perfectly with rich appetizers, fish dishes, mussels and shellfish, semi-mature cheeses, white meat dishes, black truffle and mushrooms.

The name Aelio refers both to the sun, which shares the same colour as Trebbiano wine, and to Emperor Hadrian.Born Publius Aelius Hadrianus, his paternal family came from the same territory that today houses the vineyards and cellars of Vinum Hadrianum.
Our macerated Trebbiano wine has a bright amber color, due to the long maceration on the skins. Amber wines are typically dry with hints of tannin and a weightier mouthfeel. More robust than white wine but with less intensity than bold, tannic reds, this style is a perfect match for a variety of cuisines. Bold flavors work best — try strong cheeses, charcuterie, spiced dishes, savory appetizers; grilled meats and fish also pair nicely.
