ATS was established in the early 1980s with the objective of designing and manufacturing small-scale equipment, assembly benches, and testing units—both functional and dimensional—in-house. Over the years, the increasing demand for automated solutions in the Automotive, Appliance, HVAC, Medical & Health Care, and various other industrial sectors has driven our evolution. Today, ATS stands as an international manufacturer of specialized machinery and automation systems, consolidating a multidisciplinary know-how and continuously investing in advanced technical expertise.
Our production model is characterized by the integrated management of every development phase, including mechanical, electrical, and software design, machining and assembly, electropneumatic installation, and final commissioning. By leveraging cutting-edge 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, and VISI, we ensure maximum precision and reliability across our projects. Our solutions incorporate state-of-the-art technologies including advanced robotic systems—such as SCARA, anthropomorphic, delta, and collaborative robots—as well as sophisticated machine vision systems, laser cutting and marking technologies, and precision fluid dispensing equipment. Each project undergoes rigorous verification, risk analysis, and functional testing by our expert teams to maintain consistently high-quality standards.
ATS offers tailor-made implementations designed and built specifically to address our clients’ production requirements. Our comprehensive product range includes systems for rotary table machining, robotic islands, pallet recirculation lines, assembly and test systems, along with a wide variety of specialized machinery—from semi-automatic workstations to fully automated, highly technological production lines. With meticulous attention to detail and an industrial-grade approach, our solutions deliver high performance, versatility, and reliability that are comparable to mass-produced systems in robustness and consistent performance.

BMW FRONT DOOR CONTROL UNIT ASSEMBLY LINE

ATS has engineered and built a fully automated assembly line dedicated to the production of the front door control unit for BMW vehicles. The system is designed to ensure maximum operational efficiency, consistent product quality, and full process traceability, in line with the highest standards of the automotive sector.
Product Features
The line handles the complete assembly of a complex module that includes:
4 power window switches
1 four-way joystick for mirror control
2 mirror selector switches (left/right)
1 mirror folding switch
1 child lock switch for the door
1 child lock switch for rear window control
All components are automatically fed, handled, and assembled, ensuring high process repeatability and optimized cycle times.
Integrated Technologies
The line is structured as a modular system composed of interconnected stations equipped with advanced mechatronic solutions and high-performance automation technologies, including:
11 high-speed SCARA robots for pick & place, component assembly, and internal transfer operations
2 fully automated screwdriving and feeding systems, equipped with torque control and real-time process monitoring
9 vertical storage units for thermoformed trays, integrated directly within the stations to support smooth material handling
3 vibratory bowl feeders for automatic component orientation and feeding
1 non-contact greasing system with controlled dosing, for precision lubrication of critical elements
1 industrial vision system with high-resolution optics for visual inspection and product variant verification
High-precision laser sensors for dimensional checks and presence/position verification of assembled components
Control and Supervision
The entire system is managed by a centralized PLC-based control architecture, supported by an industrial HMI interface. It ensures real-time coordination of all operations, structured data acquisition, automatic rejection of non-compliant units, and immediate diagnostics of critical events. The operator interface provides continuous monitoring of line status, with real-time access to process parameters, performance trends, and production reports.
Key Benefits for the Customer
High productivity, thanks to advanced automation and optimized task distribution
Consistent quality, ensured by integrated vision systems and in-line inspection at every station
Long-term reliability, through robust architecture, premium components, and functional redundancy
Design flexibility, allowing fast reconfiguration for different product variants
Simplified maintenance, with ergonomic layout, easy access to equipment, and remote support capabilities
This assembly line is a concrete example of advanced industrial automation tailored for the automotive industry, designed to deliver production continuity, precision, and maximum process efficiency.
