Tenuta Roletto

Tenuta Roletto’s story starts back in 1888 when Mr. Tinetti began to cultivate a small piece of vineyard by passion. During the 60s, the vineyard passed down Tinetti’s daughter Caterina and her husband Enrico Roletto. Today, Domenica Roletto and her husband Antonino Iuculano are guiding the winery giving to it an entrepreneurial footprint too. In fact, they introduced new technics and machineries keeping the same attention to the products quality.
Tenuta Roletto is located in Cuceglio, a little village near Turin in the northern region of Piedmont. Specifically, Cuceglio is part of a zone called Canavese, characterized by a peculiar morainic soil, which influences the wine’s taste. The winery relies on the production of white wine obtained from the typical grape variety called Erbaluce, an autochthonous vine with a particular acid note that helps refreshing the palate. Starting from the Erbaluce, Tenuta Roletto produces more than eleven labels and among them five are “Spumante Metodo Classico”. Every wine is the result of a different process and maturation, which can last also for many years. In fact, opposed to other white grapes, the Erbaluce is very ductile and presents several interesting facets if left to age. In spite of this, Tenuta Roletto also works with red grapes, producing strong red wines such as Barbera and Nebbiolo Canavese.
Through the years, the winery won many prestigious prizes like The Gold Medal at the “Concours Mondial Bruxelles 2020” for both the Passito and the Metodo Classico 60 Mesi. The Metodo Classico 60 Mesi also won the famous award “Euposia” being elected World Champion.
Tenuta Roletto now extends for 75 hectares of vineyard in which the staff organize walks, mountain bike excursions but also events like the grape harvest party. Moreover, the winery usually hosts visitors from all around the world in its Bed & Breakfast. The hospitality and the familiar context reserved to the guests reflects the story of Tenuta Roletto and the aim to preserve the traditions of the territory.

Lei is the Erbaluce in its purity. It is the autochthonous vine of Canavese and its origins are mixed with legendary stories and mythology. This wine is the result of a refinement done in steel tanks lasting only six months. During this process, the typical marked acidity of the vine becomes cheeky freshness, characteristic that make it suitable for both the aperitif and the meal.

Typically, the Nebbiolo is a structured, complex and long-lasting wine. For these reasons it’s considered a noble wine and Tenuta Roletto named it with the Latin word Nobilis. The organoleptic profile takes the place of the usual hardness and austerity. Nobilis is a representative wine of the Canavese territory because thanks to the cool temperatures the alcohol content is lower. Moreover, the tannic texture is dense but it releases freshness that draws every time the following sip.

Starting from the origin of this wine’s name, the word Cuvèe identify all the wines obtained by skilfully mixing various musts, so the technique shows the winemakers’ ability to enhance the quality of the grapes from different vintages. In fact, Gran Cuvèe is the result of a research and experiment path made in Tenuta Roletto during a long time. It is a Metodo Classico Brut obtained through the blend of three vintages with a 50% of reserve wines partly aged in wood. The usage of reserve wines gives the opportunity to let the Erbaluce express mineral sensations. After 24 months on its lees, Gran Cuvèe is ready for being appreciated thanks to a soft taste, immersive perfumes and the vigorous froth.

Sessanta is the Metodo Classico made with Erbaluce grapes harvested the same year, reason why it is defined Millesimato. For Tenuta Roletto it is the best expression of the vine. The name Sessanta comes from the period of time that the wine spends on the lees, which is at least 60 months before the degorgément. During the long waiting, the Erbaluce releases its most intense and elegant characteristics. Sessanta is obtained with the grapes of a particular vine cultivated following the traditional method of the “pergola canavesana” which permits a slow maturation. In this way, the grapes keep the famous acidity allowing the wine to age without losing freshness. This wine won, as the Passito, the Gold Medal at the Bruxelles Concours in 2020.

The Passito wine is a symbol of our territory and traditions. It is obtained throughout a long work that starts with the selection and the withering of the Erbaluce grapes. To make them dry, they’re hung one by one on ranks in a special big room called Passitaia. After five months, the grapes dehydrate and they are affected by the noble rot. Then, all the bunches are recollected, pressed and left to decant. The fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 20°C and later the refinement is done in steel tanks at natural temperature. At last, the must is left aging in oak barrels for at least 60 months. Tenuta Roletto decided to bottle the Passito after more than 10 years of refinement knowing that this type of one can have a long life. The result is a balanced mix between sweetness and flavour and the scent of honey and dried fruit is intense. It is usually paired with dry pastries but with the typical Italian cheese Gorgonzola gives its best. Because of its qualities, this Passito won the Gold Medal at the “Bruxelles Concours” in 2020.
