CHIONETTI

Chionetti is a family-owned winery rooted in Dogliani, in the heart of the Langhe hills of Piedmont, Italy. Founded in 1912, the estate has remained true to its origins while continuously evolving across five generations. Today, Chionetti is known for producing high-quality, terroir-driven wines that reflect the soul of its land — with Dolcetto at the core of its identity, alongside Barolo and other native varietals.

The winery’s philosophy is grounded in respect for nature, careful vineyard management, and minimal intervention in the cellar. All vineyards are organically farmed, and the grapes are harvested by hand. The result is wines with a strong connection to terroir and tradition — elegant, expressive, and capable of aging gracefully.

Our Signature: Dolcetto di Dogliani

Chionetti has played a leading role in redefining the reputation of Dolcetto. Long considered a simple table wine, Dolcetto from Dogliani — especially from the high-altitude vineyards that define our landscape — reveals unexpected depth, structure, and age-worthiness. The estate produces several single-vineyard Dolcetto wines, each telling its own story of soil, slope, and microclimate. These bottlings represent the truest expression of our territory.

Beyond Dolcetto: Barolo and Langhe Wines

While Dolcetto remains at the heart of Chionetti’s identity, the estate has expanded into the prestigious Barolo appellation, where it crafts elegant, site-specific Nebbiolo wines. Chionetti’s Barolos come from three historic crus: Bussia in Monforte d’Alba, Parussi in Castiglione Falletto, and Roncaglie in La Morra. Each vineyard offers a distinct interpretation of Barolo, united by balance, finesse, and a deep sense of place.

The winery’s range also includes Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera d’Alba, and a fresh, mineral-driven Langhe Riesling — each produced with the same care, precision, and commitment to authenticity that define the entire portfolio.

Altior, meaning “higher” in Latin, reflects both the altitude of the vineyard and the ambition behind this wine. Planted at over 500 meters above sea level in the hills of Dogliani, our Riesling grows in a unique microclimate — cool, ventilated, and rich in limestone — ideal for expressing freshness, precision, and minerality.

This wine offers a refined and surprising interpretation of Riesling in Piedmont. On the nose, it opens with notes of citrus peel, green apple, white flowers, and a delicate flinty undertone. On the palate, Altior is vibrant and taut, with crisp acidity and a saline finish that hints at its alpine origins.

Fermented and aged in stainless steel to preserve its purity, this wine is both refreshing in its youth and capable of evolving beautifully over time.

A rare and distinctive expression of Piedmontese white wine — fresh, linear, and full of character.

Grape variety: 100% Riesling
Vineyard altitude: 500+ meters
Vinification: Stainless steel, no oak
Pairing: Ideal with seafood, sushi, vegetable dishes, and fresh cheeses

For the Chionetti family, Dolcetto is not just a grape — it is a legacy. Since the 1912, five generations have dedicated themselves to cultivating this variety with unwavering commitment in the hills of Dogliani. It is here that Dolcetto finds its most noble expression, and it is through wines like Briccolero that the family's vision continues to evolve.

The name Briccolero comes from the local dialect and describes the person who works on the bricchi — the steep, rugged slopes typical of the Langhe. It is a tribute to the family’s roots, the hard work of their ancestors, and the character required to farm these hills with integrity and patience.

A Dolcetto of substance and soul, Briccolero is sourced from estate vineyards located at high altitudes (400–500 meters a.s.l.), where calcareous soils and cool microclimates offer ideal conditions for slow ripening and aromatic depth.

Tasting notes
On the nose, it reveals layers of wild blackberry, black cherry, violet, and a hint of spice. The palate is structured yet supple, with fine-grained tannins, bright acidity, and a persistent, savory finish.

Vinification and ageing
Fermented in stainless steel to retain vibrancy and aged in concrete vessels followed by a short passage in large oak casks to enhance depth and longevity.

Identity
Briccolero is a flagship expression of Dogliani, and a reflection of the Chionetti family's lifelong bond with Dolcetto — a grape often misunderstood, yet capable of greatness in the right hands and in the right place.
