Braida – Tradition and Innovation in Monferrato
Braida, led today by siblings Giuseppe and Raffaella Bologna, continues to honor and renew the family’s historic contribution to Piedmontese winemaking. Heirs to Giacomo Bologna’s legacy – the visionary behind the modern Barbera – they manage vineyards in the most prestigious areas of Monferrato with a focus on sustainability and authenticity.
At the center of Braida’s hospitality offering is Cascina San Bernardo, home to the Braida Wine Resort, surrounded by vineyards including those dedicated to Curej, a new terroir-focused Barbera d’Asti.
Internationally recognized for the outstanding quality of its wines, Braida offers celebrated labels such as "Bricco dell’Uccellone", as well as the distinguished crus "Ai Suma" and "Bricco della Bigotta". In addition to its core expertise in Barbera, the winery has expanded its focus to the historic Grignolino grape, cultivated in the Limonte vineyard and represented by the exclusive Limonte GB selection crafted by Giuseppe Bologna (GB).
Braida embodies a unique combination of tradition, innovation, and a continuous pursuit of excellence.

She is Chizuko, a Japanese sommelier who fell in love with Italy so much that she moved and build her life in Rocchetta Tanaro, her story represents a bridge between Italian and Japanese cultures, a journey of personal and professional growth, a true testimony of passion for wine and integration. To cheers this union of these two countries, there is no better wine than La Monella, a wine that connect and celebrates life!
Listen to the Wine: La Monella Braida Giacomo Bologna taught us that wine is not only observed and tasted, but also listened to. Here’s the lively and sparkling sound of La Monella, a wine that whispers its joyful Piemontese soul. Let yourself be carried away by the rustle of the bubbles, by the sound in the glass: it's the voice of the wine speaking directly to the heart. Do like Giacomo, bring the glass close to your ear, close your eyes, and listen…
Braida Curej, Cascina San Bernardo. Un riscoperto terroir della Barbera di Rocchetta Tanaro.
There are wines that are loved at first taste. That are remembered. That enter history. Wines that, in some way, know how to shape history. This is the case of Bricco dell'Uccellone di Braida, first harvest 1982, exactly 40 years ago. 1982-2022: celebrating the first 40 harvests of Bricco dell'Uccellone, the symbolic wine of the Barbera revolution!
Braida Wine Resort: a unique location. A beautiful hill ridge, with an open view over the rooftops of Rocchetta and the meander of the River Tanaro. Amidst natural forests populated by locust, elm and oak trees. The Braida Wine Resort is located in the hamlet of Asinara, in a typical 18th-century Pied-montese farmhouse originally named after Saint Bernard of Menton, protector of climbers and mountaineers. The vocation of Hospitality, The Flavors of Nature, The emotion of landscape.

BRICCO DELLA BIGOTTA - BARBERA D'ASTI (RED WINE)

La bigotta was a pious woman who lived next to our Barbera vineyard. She was much more concerned with the rules and appearances of religion than the spirit behind it. We added the spirit.
Made with 100% Barbera grapes in the hills planted with vines owned in Castelnuovo Calcea.
20 days’ maceration on skins, followed by 15 months in barriques and another year in the bottle.
A ruby red colour with purple tints. A rich, intense and persistent perfume, well-evolved, with sensations of liquorice, violet, plum and vanilla. Fruit and spice emerge on the palate, with flavours ranging from roast coffee to stronger yet nicely balanced spices, vigorous and intense. Its rich expression is due to the spices that envelop the flavour of ripe plum (the most evident fruit), conveying a suave and potent touch. Ideal with roast meat, game and hard cheeses
AI SUMA - BARBERA D'ASTI (RED WINE)

On the 16th of October 1989, going against the advice given to him by everyone, Giacomo Bologna carried out a late harvest of Barbera. “Ai Suma!”, “we did it!” he exclaimed when he tasted the wine: a new Braida Barbera was born from his far-sightedness and stubbornness. Since 1989 it has been made in only the best vintages.
M ade with late harvested 100% Barbera grapes in the hills planted with vines owned in Rocchetta Tanaro.
Temperature controlled maceration on skins takes place for 20 days. The wine spends 15 months in oak casks and then ages in the bottle for a year.
Very deep ruby red colour with garnet highlights. Ample, rich and complex bouquet with numerous scents of fruit and a background of vanilla, liquorice and cocoa notes.
Full, powerful flavour with a great structure, yet elegant and sensual at the same tim e, harmonious and very persistent. Ideal with roasts and meat dishes, also with sauces, and mature cheeses

CUREJ - BARBERA D'ASTI (RED WINE)

The term Curej originates from cureja, meaning a trouser belt or the long belt used in machinery for threshing grain. Curej is the nickname of the family, which looked after the soil since the beginning. The Barbera come exclusively from the hills of San Bernardo, where the quality of vines is excellent and the soil is unique.
Barbera 100%. Ancient property of the Curej in the hills of San Bernardo, Rocchetta Tanaro. Average plant density of 5000 vines per hectare.
Fifteen days of maceration on the skins, followed by maturation of three months in big oak barrels.
Purplish ruby red colour. Big and expressive, fruity and floral, blue rasperries, fresh cherry, wisteria, blond tobacco and liquorice. A surprising harmony of different scents. The taste is full and dry, sapid and fresh, well balanced among the spicy, fruity and floral notes.

LIMONTE - GRIGNOLINO D'ASTI (RED WINE)

We really believe in Grignolino. Year after year we are becoming increasingly convinced by the fruit grown in this viticultural property, on one of the hills overlooking Rocchetta Tanaro, where soil rich in clay and silt (limo in Italian) offers the wine its unmistakable structure and its name, Limonte.
100% Grignolino, land in the municipality of Rocchetta Tanaro, planted in 2010, a plant density of 5500 vines per hectare, southerly/easterly exposure. Soil composition: 40% silt, 30% sand, 30% clay.
Temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel. After spending about four months in steel tanks, the wine ages in the bottle for an additional two months.
Bright garnet red with ruby highlights. Floral scents featuring rose, freshly cut hay, fruit such as apricots and yellow plums, accompanied by a corollary of wild strawberry, raspberry and cherry. Fresh and vinous palate, elegantly fleshy, featuring the same rose and fruits expressed in the nose with the same intensity. Initially fine tannins subsequently grow in importance. Good balance and persistence.
