El Hijo Pródigo is an Argentine wine project with Italian roots (in Valpolcella), born in Mendoza and built on five generations of Italian winemaking know-how.
The project brings together two wine cultures: the experience and tradition of an Italian family with a long history in wine, and the exceptional terroir of Mendoza, Argentina.
Our vineyards are located in La Consulta, Valle de Uco (Mendoza). Our focus is Malbec, Argentina’s flagship grape variety, with particular attention to La Consulta, one of Mendoza’s most renowned high-altitude wine-growing areas.
Our portfolio includes Malbec, Single Vineyard Malbec Reserva, Bonarda, Tempranillo and other selected Argentine wines, combining authentic origin, limited production and excellent value for money.
Through New Market Sys, our Italian commercial and distribution company, selected wines are already available from our stock in Verona, Italy, allowing fast deliveries throughout Italy and Europe without the need for direct importation from Argentina. Small trial orders can also be considered for selected European distributors.
We are currently looking to establish long-term partnerships with wine importers, distributors, Ho.Re.Ca. operators and specialised retailers in Italy, Europe and selected international markets.

Malbec Seleccion La Consulta (Valle de Uco) - El Hijo Prodigo
100% Malbec from La Consulta, Valle de Uco, Mendoza, at 980 metres above sea level.
A pure expression of Argentina’s signature grape variety from one of the Uco Valley’s most distinctive high-altitude terroirs. The continental climate, Andean soils and marked temperature variations between day and night enhance the aromatic intensity and freshness of the Malbec.
Grapes are hand-harvested in 16 kg boxes. After a three-day cold pre-fermentation maceration, the wine ferments for two weeks on the skins and is then aged for 8 to 12 months in selected Allier French oak barriques, followed by six months in bottle.
Deep purple-red with violet reflections. Aromas of raspberry, sour cherry and vanilla. Fresh and fruit-driven on the palate, with soft tannins, balanced acidity and well-integrated oak, leading to a smooth and pleasant finish.
An authentic Argentine Malbec, particularly suited to grilled meats, barbecue and Argentine asado.
Malbec Reserva single vineyard La Consulta (Valle de Uco) - El Hijo Prodigo
100% Malbec from a single 1.5-hectare vineyard in La Consulta, Valle de Uco, Mendoza, at 1,060 metres above sea level.
La Consulta is one of the most prestigious terroirs of the Uco Valley, particularly renowned for Malbec. The vineyard’s clay-rich soils, high altitude and significant day-to-night temperature variations contribute to the wine’s natural acidity, elegant tannins and distinctive character.
Grapes are hand-harvested in 16 kg boxes, followed by five days of cold pre-fermentation maceration and three weeks of fermentation on the skins. The wine is then aged for 18 to 24 months in selected Allier French oak barriques, followed by eight months of bottle ageing.
Deep ruby-purple in colour, with aromas of raspberry, plum, chocolate, caramel and vanilla. Full-bodied and complex, with soft tannins, vibrant acidity, red fruit and subtle mineral and balsamic notes. Long and persistent finish.
Limited production. An ideal partner for premium grilled meats, steak and traditional Argentine asado.
Bonarda Seleccion de Medrano - El Hijo Prodigo
100% Argentine Bonarda (Corbeau Noir - Douce Noir) from Medrano, Mendoza, at 780 metres above sea level.
Bonarda is one of Argentina’s historic red grape varieties and an intriguing alternative for wine lovers looking beyond Malbec. The El Hijo Pródigo Bonarda comes from Medrano, an area particularly suited to this variety.
Grapes are hand-harvested in 16 kg boxes and undergo a three-day cold pre-fermentation maceration. The wine is aged for 6 to 8 months in selected Allier French oak barriques, followed by four months in bottle.
Deep ruby-red with violet reflections. Aromas of blackcurrant, cherry and blackberry are complemented by subtle vanilla and tobacco notes. Structured yet elegant on the palate, with velvety tannins, fresh fruit and a pleasantly persistent finish.
An authentic and distinctive expression of one of Argentina’s traditional red varieties.
Tempranillo Seleccion La Consulta (Valle de Uco) - El Hijo Prodigo
100% Tempranillo from a historic, nearly century-old vineyard of just 2 hectares in La Consulta, Valle de Uco, Mendoza, at 980 metres above sea level.
Originally from Spain, Tempranillo has a long history in Argentina and has adapted remarkably well to Mendoza’s high-altitude conditions. Our Tempranillo comes from a rare old vineyard in La Consulta, where the age of the vines, limited surface area and naturally low yields contribute to the wine’s distinctive character and concentration.
Grapes are hand-harvested in 16 kg boxes. After a two-day cold pre-fermentation maceration, the wine ferments for two weeks on the skins and is then aged for 12 months in concrete tanks, followed by six months of bottle ageing.
Deep ruby-red with purple tones. The nose shows ripe red fruits together with balsamic and undergrowth notes. On the palate it is enveloping and balanced, with blackberry and sour cherry flavours, soft tannins and lively acidity, leading to a clean and persistent finish.
A limited-production Tempranillo from an exceptional old vineyard, combining Spanish heritage with the unique high-altitude terroir of La Consulta.
Torrontés Seleccion de Salta - El Hijo Prodigo
100% Torrontés from the high-altitude vineyards of the Cafayate Valley, Salta, at 1,680 metres above sea level.
Torrontés is Argentina’s distinctive aromatic white grape variety. In Cafayate, the exceptional altitude and dramatic day-to-night temperature variations enhance its naturally aromatic character while preserving freshness and acidity.
Grapes are hand-harvested in 16 kg boxes and fermented at low temperature. The wine is aged for 4 to 6 months in stainless steel with bâtonnage sur lie, followed by three months in bottle.
Pale straw yellow with green reflections. Intense floral aromas of jasmine and white peach lead to vibrant notes of ripe grapefruit, peach and aromatic herbs on the palate, supported by refreshing acidity.
Fresh, aromatic and unmistakably Argentine.
