
Guest experienced an exclusive masterclass and tasting lead by expert Gelato Chef Salvatore Boccarossa from the famous Passione Gelato in Vancouver with the collaboration of Chef Matteo Bartolini. The 9th edition of the Italian Cuisine Week focused on the sweet marvel of Artisanal Italian gelato, one of the best artisanal creation of pastry chefs and gelato makers traced back to the Medici Family in Florence in 1559, reported to be a creation of the famous architect Buontalenti. The event showcased the finest ingredients from the Campania region: attendees enjoyed a tasty selection of 4 artisanal gelato creations crafted expressly for the Italian Cuisine Week in the magnificent setting of Carlino Restaurant.

The event spotlighted the rich and diverse southern Italian regional cuisine, showcasing its inherent simplicity, seasonality, and sustainability. It beautifully demonstrated how each region, through time-honored traditions and practices, uniquely embraces its terroir, naturally providing its people with a wholesome, nourishing, and deeply satisfying diet.
By highlighting these authentic culinary practices, the event offered an immersive experience that captured the true essence of southern Italian gastronomy and its commitment to healthy, fulfilling living.
Chef Salvatore Boccarossa was born and raised in Naples, with a great passion for gelato since his early age. Attended the world renowned Carpigiani Gelato University in Anzola dell'Emilia, near Bologna, Italy. When moved to Canada, he started working at the original Bella Gelateria alongside maestro James Coleridge, together they competed and won the Grand Title of North America Champions in Austin, Texas. After years of perfecting his crafts at Bella Gelateria, Salvatore opened his own gelateria and Passione Gelato Gelateria Artigianale was born!

Chef Matteo Bartolini after perfectioning his experience in Italy, is currently working as Head Chef at Locanda dell’Orso in Vancouver. He preserves the integrity of Traditions using fresh, local, and Italian ingredients. but using his craftmanship to blend traditional Italian flavours with innovative techniques, all the while drawing inspiration from Northern and Coastal Italian cuisine.
In this Masterclass he contributes to the creations of new flavours for the gelato tasting experience in the respect of Italian tradition with a touch of innovation.
