Italy-Canada Business Forum on AI - November 22-23, 2022 - Montreal

Italy - Canada Business Forum on AI

SIX ITALIAN STARTUPS UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT AT THE CANADA-ITALY BUSINESS FORUM

The Italian Trade Commission (ITC), a governmental agency supporting the internationalization of Italian companies, is joining forces with the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada of Montréal (CCIC), in a synergic effort with many other stakeholders, in order to strengthen the commercial component of the fourth edition of the Business Forum on artificial intelligence (AI), to be held in Montreal from 22 to 23 November, 2022.

Six Italian start-up companies, selected according to the level of development of the proposed technology and the commercial potential in Canada, among other criteria, will participate, thanks to the ITC, in a program of mentoring and support which will revolve around the Forum. CCIC and ITC will facilitate their entry into the Canadian market and familiarize them with Montreal’s AI ecosystem. The six companies will be present at the Forum and will take part not only in the high level sessions (see program here) but also in a series of visits and business meetings with potential counterparts. Some information about each of them follows.

E-PLATO - Search engine, automatic company data classifier

L.I.F.E. - Multi-parameter medical monitoring wearables

METEO SALES - Customer profiling system thanks to the tracking of environment data

ML CUBE - Platform for monitoring machine learning models

The Forum is organized by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada of Montréal (CCIC) under the auspices of the Italian Embassy in Canada and the Consulate General of Italy in Montréal and with the support of the ITC and of several sponsors. Its 2022 edition is dedicated to the opportunities, open questions and challenges concerning artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, with particular reference to applications in the fields of critical infrastructures, such as energy and transportation, aerospace and defence, manufacturing, logistics, financial and security sectors health.

The Forum will bring together Canadian and Italian government entities, technology clusters, universities, and companies of all sizes, together with prestigious speakers from both countries, including ITC’s President, Mr. Carlo Maria Ferro. ''Montréal boasts a remarkable concentration of operating public and private organizations working on AI”, explains Marco Saladini, director of the ITC offices in Canada. Indeed, well-known companies such as Aspentech, Google, Behavox and Ericsson are base here. The city is host also to the Montréal Institute for Learning Algorithms (MILA), a leading university laboratory, which brings together more than 600 researchers, and to the Institute for Data Valorisation (IVADO), where over 1,400 scientists work in partnership with 150 enterprises, under the guidance of Yoshua Begio, a charismatic figure on the global stage. In Montréal are also based SCALE.AI, an industrial AI supercluster in Canada that spans across multiple sectors and offers supply chain intelligent procurement through AI and robotics and OBVIA and CEIMIA, two not for profit organizations active in advising about social and political challenges posed by AI. Toronto is also well endowed with entities and professionals in the industry.

''With record numbers of researchers, students and technology based companies, Montréal and Toronto are an ideal environment for Italian start-up companies” adds Marco Saladini. “Investments are flowing to the sector at an increasing rate and the whole ecosystem is benefiting. We’re here to help Italian companies understand how a collaboration with local counterparts can benefit their growth strategy.”, concludes Saladini, hinting at the support and promotional services offered by the ITC through its offices in Montréal and Toronto
