MALAYSIA: MALAYSIA-SINGAPORE HIGH-SPEED RAILWAY PROJECT MAY RESTART IF COSTS CUT
Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said that the government may revive the Malaysia-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) if the project cost can be lowered significantly. The Malaysian portion of the projects will cost RM110 bil (€23 bil), which sum Lim referred to as "exorbitant". The Malaysian government had announced it was scrapping the HSR project in May due to high costs, and then later said it was reviewing the project. The Singapore government has called out Malaysia's indecision over the project, with local media noting that Malaysia's costs may snowball should a termination fee or legal fees have to be paid.
