SRI LANKA TO REMOVE PARA-TARIFFS ON 1000 ITEMS

According to the press, Sri Lanka is implementing a comprehensive unilateral trade liberalization including the rationalization of para-tariffs which add costs to business and consumers. Para tariffs are the charges on imported goods in addition to a tariff. According to analysts, the para-tariffs on imports will be phased out over five years, while products related to tourism, manufacturing, and construction will be free of para-tariffs over three years abolishing para tariffs on around 1000 items.
