GLI EFFETTI DEL CORONAVIRUS SUL MERCATO DELLA GIOIELLERIA GLOBALE

The coronavirus outbreak is starting to significantly affecting the jewelry business. For instance, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council announced that the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show, formerly scheduled for March 2nd–6th, and the Hong Kong International Jewelry Show, due to take place March 4th–8th, will instead be moved to May 18th–21st. Moreover, Swatch decided to hold its own event following its withdrawal from the Baselworld fair. On the contrary, The Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair, scheduled for February 25th–29th, has neither canceled nor moved its dates. In order to ensure safety, the organizer’s website has an illustrated guide on how to prevent the potential spread of the virus. Meanwhile, the pandemic is also leading to breakdowns in the supply chains and store closures in China, such as in the case of Pandora: the Chief Executive Office has announced the temporarily closure of 70 of its 240 stores in the country.
