EGYPT TO DEVELOP NEW CHEMICALS FACILITY

Egypt is planning to develop a new petrochemicals facility with a production target of 60,000 tonnes a year (t/y). The project is expected to require investment of between E£700m ($44.6m) and E£800m ($51.0m).Under existing plans, the new unit will provide coloured polyethylene for the local market, sister oil companies and other industrial institutions.Earlier in May, Egypt signed a $7.5bn deal for a planned 3.56 million square-metre refining and petrochemicals facility that will be constructed in Ain Sokhna industrial zone.The deal was signed by Red Sea National Refining & Petrochemicals Company and Suez Canal Economic Zone's development company.The products the complex will produce include polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester and bunker fuel.
