Trade turnover between Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan up 46% in Jan-May 2021In January-May 2021  trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan increased 46% to $ 1.5 billion with indicators improving across all freight traffic items, the press office of the Kazakh prime minister said in a statement following a meeting between Prime Minister Askar Mamin and Uzbek Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov.The sides are taking measures to boost the transport and logistics potential to increase mutual trade with trade growing  46% to $ 1.5 billio in January-May 2021, the statement said on Tuesday.In the five months of the year exports between the countries rose 58.4%.In the first the six months of the year, 1.3 million tonnes of cargo were transported by road, or an 18% increase.In January-March 2021 container traffic totaled  233,900  twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEUs), or a 57% increase compared with the same period in 2020.It was reported earlier that in 2020 trade turnover between the two countries stood at $ 0.8 billion.Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan intend to build a highway from Turkestan to Tashkent via Shymkent and a new  international railroad between Uzbekistan’s  Darbaza and Kazakhstan’s Maktaaral to reduce workload on the existing checkpoint Saryagash, double a throughput, reduce transportation time 33%. This project would boost cargo exports and imports  from Central Asia to Europe. (ICE ALMATY)
