Central Asian presidents agree to set up joint council of industrialists and entrepreneursThe leaders of presidents of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan stressed the need to set up a five-way Central Asian council of industrialists and entrepreneurs, they said in a joint statement after the summit at the Avaza national resort in Turkmenistan.The new body would make regional trade, economic, transport and logistic, and innovation cooperation more systemic, the document said.To boost economic and financial development and attract more investment, the Central Asian states have agreed to use Astana's International Financial Center as a platform of liaising between them and foreign investors.Also, the leaders backed Uzbekistan's initiative to set up a regional center for the development of transport communications under the UN aegis to deep cooperation in the sphere and ensure free, unhindered goods and cargo transit by all types of transport.The Central Asian heads of state also agreed to do utmost to develop North-South and East-West international corridors, called for more trade through regional value chains and joint industrial clusters, and to jointly advance digital economy.The leaders also intend to increase the number of joint economic projects, including on the development of trade and production sites in border areas and wholesale distribution chains.They also noted the importance of quickly devising common approaches to making regional trade procedures simpler and more efficient and instructed their foreign ministries to finish soon the approval of a draft 2022-2024 regional cooperation roadmap.
