NATIONAL EXPORTS INCREASE BY 15.9% AND IMPORTS INCREASE BY 21.3% DURING THE first eight months of 2021 compared with the same period of 2020

          The monthly report of the external trade issued by the Department of Statistics indicates that the value of total exports reached 4127.5 million JDs during the first eight months of 2021 with an increase by 13.7% compared with the same period of 2020. Meanwhile, the national exports value reached 3745.7 million JDs during the first eight months of 2021 with an increase by 15.9% compared with the same period of 2020. The value of re-exports reached 381.8 million JDs during the first eight months of 2021 with a decrease by 4.3% compared with the same period of 2020. The imports value reached 9497.6 million JD during the first eight months of 2021, thus increasing by 21.3% compared with the same period of 2020.     The deficit in the trade balance, which is calculated by deducting the value of imports from the value of total exports, has reached 5370.1 million JD, therefore, the deficit has increased during the first eight months of 2021 by 27.9% compared with the same period of 2020. The imports coverage by total exports has become 43.5% during the first eight months of 2021, while it was 46.4% for the same period of 2020, which means a decrease by 2.9 percentage points.   As for commodities, the main exported items that witnessed an increase in their export value were export value of clothes and its related knitted accessories by 14.5%, fertilizers by 76.8%, crude potash by 14.3%, pharmaceutical products by 6.5%, crude phosphate by 41.8% and chemical products by 24.8%. As for imports, there was an increase in the imports value of crude oil and its products 16.0%, vehicles, motorcycle and their parts by 29.3%, machines and machinery tools and their parts by 20.8%, Jewelry and precious metals by 502.1%, machinery and electrical appliances and their parts by 11.3% and Grains by 28.3%.       Regarding trade with the main partners, there was an increase in the national exports to the Greater Arab Trade Zone countries by 14.7% part of which Saudi Arabia by 40.1%, North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) by 22.1% part of which USA by 22.2%, the non-Arab Asian Countries by 22.4% part of which India by 42.2%, and the European Union countries by 33.0% part of which Holland by 14.3%. As for the imports, there was an increase in the imports value from the Greater Arab Trade Zone countries by 37.0% part of which Saudi Arabia by 39.5%, the non-Arab Asian Countries by 24.1% part of which China by 12.5%, the European Union countries by 15.0% part of which Germany by 13.6%. Meanwhile, there was a decrease in the Imports value from North America Free Trade Agreement by 1.4% part of which Mexico by 16.2%.           On a monthly level the value of Jordan national exports has reached 548.8 million JD during August 2021 against 492.6 million JD during the same month of 2020 representing an increase by 11.4%.The main reason behind this increase is attributed to the increase of the value of national exports of the following commodities during August 2021 compared with same month of 2020: 1. Nitrogenous or Chemical Fertilizers from 25.0 million JD to 62.9 million JD - an increase by 151.6%. 2. Crude Potash from 31.9 million JD to 57.0 million JD - an increase by 78.7%. 3. Knitted Clothes and its related accessories from 114.6 million JD to 134.1 million JD - an increase by 17.0%. 4. Crude Phosphate from 16.5 million JD to 32.8 million JD - an increase by 98.8%. In addition, there was an increase in the value of national exports of organic and nonorganic chemical products, Fruits and Vegetables, Aluminum and its manufacturers, paper and its manufactures, Electrical machines and their parts, Tobacco, Meat Products, pharmaceutical products, Cement, Mills products and Plastic and its manufacturers. These exports constituted 81.4% of the total value of the national exports during August 2021 compared with 60.2% in the same month of 2020.  During August 2021, Data indicate a decrease in the national exports value of Jewelry and precious metals by 89.9%, machinery and their parts by 24.8%, Detergents and their products by 12.3% and Livestock by 17.3%. Meanwhile, there was a decrease in the national exports value in August 2021 of the following products: Alcoholic beverages, non-knitted clothes and their related accessories and Furniture and its parts.
