Ivan Petrov has been elected President of the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) during a General Meeting of the organization on Thursday. Petrov is Deputy Chair of the Bulgarian National Freight Forwarding Association (BNFFA), the Bulgarian Association reported here on Friday. Petrov is responsible for BNFFA's international activities. and has served as its Chair for two terms between 2000 and 2006. He has been at the helm of Trans Express EOOD since 1991. Petrov holds a PhD in economics and has specialized in international transport in the US, Austria, Germany and Russia, BNFFA said. FIATA is the largest non-governmental transport organization in the world. It was founded in 1926 in Vienna and is currently based in Geneva. Its membership base consists of 108 associations and over 5,800 individual members, representing more than 40,000 companies from across the world. FIATA's objectives are to unite the freight forwarding industry worldwide; to represent, promote and protect the interests of the industry by participating as advisors or experts in meetings of international bodies dealing with transportation; to familiarize trade and industry and the public at large with the services rendered by freight forwarders through the dissemination of information, distribution of publications, etc. (ICE SOFIA)
