Arabia Saudita

Saudi Arabia has selected the local Shibh al-Jazira Contracting (Sajco) to deliver the main works package for its dry port at King Salman Energy Park (Spark) in the Eastern Province of the kingdom. Sajco’s scope of works includes the development of infrastructure such as utilities, electrical networks, and administrative and maintenance buildings, as well as roads, bridges and landscaping. The contractor will also deliver port equipment such as container side shifters and fixed cranes for the lumpsum contract, which is expected to be completed in 2023. US-based Parsons is the consultant for the project, for which bids were submitted in June. Client Saudi Aramco established Energy City Development Company in 2019 to own and develop Spark. Spark and Hutchison Ports signed a shareholders’ agreement to form a joint venture for the dry port and its bonded logistics zone’s operation and management in September. The 3 square kilometre dry port and logistics zone will include warehouses and storage facilities and an on-site customs clearance facility. Spark said the port will “enable the future joint venture to capture the growing demand for logistics services for energy-related products in the Middle East and beyond while also serving the neighbouring industrial cities”.
