CROATIA: CHINESE COMPANY CONSTRUCTS EUR 200 MILLION WIND FARM PROJECT IN CROATIA

The Senj Wind Farm which was built by the Chinese company Norinco with an investment of around EUR 200 million in the area of Senj and Brinje in Croatia represent the largest Chinese investment in clean energy in Croatia, and was officially started in operational trials on Tuesday by representatives of the Chinese investor and Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic remotely by pushing button in the Sheraton Hotel in Zagreb. Norinco is now one of the largest investors in the green economy in Croatia and the project is set to contribute to green and low-carbon development, local community development.     In his comments on the occasion, Plenkovic estimated that these 39 wind turbines will be an important contribution to the total electricity production in Croatia.      The wind farm covers about 60 square kilometers, has a capacity of 156 megawatts (MW), and has 39 wind turbines with an individual capacity of four megawatts. Its estimated annual production is 530 million kWh. It was built by the Chinese state-owned company Norinco International Cooperation, i.e., their Croatian subsidiary, which is the majority owner of the Senj-based company Energija Projekt.     More than 40 local subcontractors and suppliers where hires on the project along with more than 260 domestic workers.
