The Democracy, Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights Monitoring Group (DRFMG) under the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Group at the European Parliament will hold a session on the situation in Bulgaria on January 27, MEP Elena Yoncheva said in a press release. The group plans to invite the Bulgarian prime minister, members of the Bulgarian government, the prosecutor general, and representatives of other institutions which are involved with the rule of law in Bulgaria. The authorities are expected to present their plans for judicial reforms, ways to make the prosecutor general accountable and legislative changes which will effectively counter corruption. The MEPs will also discuss media freedom and preventing law suits against journalists and civil activists. The DRFMG Group began to monitor Bulgaria in the summer of 2020, coinciding with protests in Bulgaria. The group has held two sessions including with representatives of the non-government sector. Four months ago, a DRFMG mission visited Bulgaria (ICE SOFIA)
