GOVT EXPEDITES AIRPORT EXPANSION PROJECTS

As the Thai government is planning to transform Thailand into an Asean transportation hub, the expansion plan for the airport is being pushed forward in order to meet with the rising demand of air travel during the high season. The three main airports that will be expanded are Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Don Mueang International Airport, and U-Tapao airport. As for suvarnabhumi, it is planned to expand the airport in order to be able to accommodate roughly 120 million passengers yearly. Currently, the airport is experiencing the construction of Runway number 3 and additional aircrafts parking bays. Regarding Don Mueang International Airport, a third terminal is planned to be constructed and the goal is to accommodate 18 million additional passengers. Lastly, U-tapao is aiming to launch its second terminal by 2027 and plans to accept 5 million passengers. Additionally, regional airports that will also be included in the development plan are Betong Airport, Krabi Airport, Mae Sot Airport, and Khon Kaen Airport. (ICE BANGKOK)
