KAZAKHSTAN-AZERBAIJAN-TELECOM-COOPERATION
Kazakhtelecom signs agreement with AzerTelecom on cooperation in Trans-Caspian projectKazakhtelecom JSC and AzerTelecom have signed an Agreement on Terms of Cooperation within the framework of the Trans-Caspian fiber-optic communication line (FOCL) project along the Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan route, the press service of Kazakhtelecom said in a press release on Wednesday.This Agreement lays the foundation for strategic partnership and defines the main terms and conditions for cooperation between the two companies in pursuance of the previously signed memorandum.Construction of a fiber-optic communication line on the seabed of the Caspian Sea between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan is slated to be completed at the end of the next year, according to the press release.The communication line will be over 340 km long; it will start in Aktau (Kazakhstan) and end in Siyazan (Azerbaijan). In addition, a standby line of about 330 km will be laid from the Kuryk seaport in Kazakhstan to Buzovna near Baku, Azerbaijan.As previously reported, the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan within the framework of the Trans-Caspian fiber-optic communication line (FOCL) project along the Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan route, which is part of the large-scale Digital Silk Way project, is aimed to build a new digital telecommunications corridor between Europe and Asia through Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.The construction of the Transcaspian fiber-optic communication line on the Caspian Sea bottom began in 2019.Kazakhtelecom JSC is the leading communication operator in Kazakhstan holding a dominant position in the domestic market of telecommunication services. The company owns 51% of the shares in the mobile operator Kcell and 100% in Mobile Telecom Service LLP. The major shareholder of Kazakhtelecom is Kazakhstan's National Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna with 52.03%.AzerTelecom, part of NEQSOL Holding, is Azerbaijan’s leading telecommunications operator that provides access to international telecommunications networks.
