CROATIA: RETAIL SALES DOWN 0.8% Y-O-Y IN DECEMBER 2022 INDICATING SLOWDOWN IN Economy
According to the calendar-adjusted data published by the State Bureau of Statistic (DZS) on30 January, retail sales in Croatia fell 0.8% year-on-year in December 2022, which indicates a slowdown in the country's economic growth in the 4Q2022, Croatian media report.The DZS data show that retail sales in December 2022 declined 0.8% compared to the previous month as well as 0.8% compared to December 2021. Sales of food, drinks, and tobacco products fell 1.7% in December 2022 year-on-year, while sales of non-food products, excluding motor fuels and lubricants, fell 3.5%. Overall, retail sales in Croatia rose 2.1% in 2022.The decline in consumption and industrial production in December shows a further slowdown in economic growth in the 4Q2022. In the 3Q 2022, the gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 5.2% compared to the same period the previous year, which was the sixth quarter in a row that the economy has recovered from the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, but the growth was slower than in the second quarter when the GDP rose 8.7%.
