SAUDI SHIPYARD SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH US FIRM

Saudi Arabia’s International Maritime Industries (IMI) has awarded a five-year framework agreement to US-headquartered Elektriska Svetsnings-Aktiebolaget (Esab) for the supply of welding equipment. The agreement was signed during Saudi Aramco's In-Kingdom Total Value iktva Forum and Exhibition, hosted by Saudi Aramco, in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. “The agreement includes the localisation of manufacturing, job creation, knowledge transfer, and sourcing of raw materials from the local market,”. Aramco holds the majority 50.1 per cent stake in IMI. Saudi Arabia’s Bahri has a 19.9 stake and international partners UAE/UK-based Lamprell and HHI – the world’s largest shipbuilder – hold stakes of 20 per cent and 10 per cent, respectively. IMI is developing the King Salman International Complex for Maritime Industries & Services in Ras al-Khair in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. (ICE RIYADH)
