CROATIA: IN JANUARY 2023 INFLATION UP 12.7% Y-O-Y, REMAINS UNCHANGED M-O-M

According to the State Bureau of Statistics (DZS) first estimate published on 1 February, the prices of goods and services for personal consumption, measured by the consumer price index, were on average 12.7% higher in January 2023 compared to January 2022, while compared to December 2022, they remained on average the same.The DZS first assessment of the consumer price index in January shows that, observed according to specific groups, the estimated annual inflation rate for the group that includes food, beverages and tobacco is 15.4%, for energy 13.8”, for industrial non-food products without energy 12.1%, and for services 9.3%.On a monthly level, compared to December 2022, food, drinks and tobacco are 1.3% more expensive in January 2023, followed by increase in price of services by 1.1% while industrial non-food products without energy are estimated to fall by 2.1%, and energy by 1%.The DZS noted that it will publish the final data on the consumer price index in January according to the European Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose (ECOICOP) on 23 February 2023, when more accurate and detailed data will be known that will show whether the slowdown in the rise of consumer prices continued on an annual basis, as suggested by the DZS’ first estimate published on 1 February.The slowdown in the growth of consumer prices was recorded in December 2022 when consumer prices rose by 13.1% year-on-year, while in November 2022 inflation was at a record 13.5% year-on-year.
