GOV’T LAUNCHES SEK 2 MILLION INFORMATION CAMPAIGN TO BOOST BLOOD DONATION RATES
The Government is launching an information campaign to increase the number of blood donors in Sweden, TT/Omni reports. As a result, the National Board of Health and Welfare (Sw. Socialstyrelsen) will be given SEK 2 million to carry out the campaign. "The availability of blood is of great importance for healthcare, especially in events with many seriously injured people," said the Minister for Health Care, Acko Ankarberg Johansson (KD) in a press release. "For acute injuries and operations as well as for planned treatments, for example in the case of cancer, a robust and safe stock of blood and blood components must be available, regardless of where in the country the need arises," she continued. Currently approximately 2-3% of the population are active blood donors, and the differences between the regions are described as significant. The National Board of Health and Welfare must report back to the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs by 17 March 2025 at the latest. (ICE STOCCOLMA)
