Georgia's Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Romeo Mikautadze, has stated that the primary goal of the country's energy policy is to ensure energy security. Speaking at the Global Ministerial Dialogues panel, he emphasized the importance of providing the population and businesses with safe, clean, and affordable energy. This is not only necessary for economic development but also to meet the growing energy demands in the country.To achieve this goal, Georgia is actively working on developing traditional and renewable energy sources. The government is also introducing new technologies, such as green hydrogen production, energy storage batteries, and other systems that store excess energy generated by renewable sources during periods of low demand. These measures allow the accumulated energy to be used when demand is higher, reducing the need for additional energy production.Energy efficiency is another priority direction, which helps to reduce energy consumption, including the use of fossil fuels. Romeo Mikautadze stressed the importance of implementing energy efficiency measures, such as improving building insulation, upgrading lighting systems, and using energy-efficient appliances. These measures can significantly reduce overall energy demand, helping to conserve energy resources and reduce energy costs for consumers.The Deputy Minister also highlighted the need to encourage private sector investment in clean energy production. He spoke about the government's support scheme for the production and use of renewable energy, which is expected to attract over $2 billion in investment in the country's energy sector.Furthermore, Georgia is working on a global project that will connect its energy systems with the European Union through a Black Sea submarine cable.
