SHELL SIGNS OIL DEAL IN KUWAIT

The London-based international oil company Shell has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the national oil company Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) covering the transfer of knowledge in a range of areas relating to the fossil fuel industry.KPC said in a statement that the deal was signed as part of a strategy to increase the benefits gained from existing relationships with international oil and gas companies.The accord implies no financial liabilities.It was signed by KPC’s chief executive Sheikh Nawaf Saud al-Sabah and Shell’s chief executive Wael Sawwan.Shell has a long history of being active in Kuwait’s oil and gas sector and first entered the market in 1948.In 2010, Shell signed an enhanced technical services agreement (ETSA) with Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) to jointly develop the Jurassic gas fields in the country’s north.It was the first oil major to sign an enhanced services deal in Kuwait, worth KD229.3m ($797m).In 2016, Shell Kuwait Exploration & Production signed two additional ETSAs to provide services to KOC for the North Kuwait heavy oil field and North Kuwait conventional oil field. Shell supports KOC’s operations by providing technical and other support services.In 2016, Shell Global Solutions International was awarded a plant reliability, integrity and maintenance contract by the state-owned downstream operator Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC). This contract aimed to improve the reliability of the Mina Ahmadi and Mina Abdullah refineries.In 2018, Shell Global Solutions International signed an agreement with KOC to support enhanced oil recovery activities in West Kuwait.
