NICOSIA TO HOST EUROPEAN RESEARCHERS’ NIGHT

The European Researchers’ Night will return to the State Fair in Nicosia on Friday, September 27, with the agenda of the day including live experiments, science competitions, and interactive games.  The event, titled “Mission Possible: Researchers on Board for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,” will run from 8:30 AM until 10:00 PM and aims to engage both young and old in celebrating science, research, and innovation.  Organised by the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), in collaboration with key organisations in the research, innovation, and business sectors, the event takes place under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.  According to an official announcement released this week, the event forms part of a broader European Commission initiative, held simultaneously across more than 23 countries and 400 cities, with the purpose of promoting a culture of research and innovation, as well as showcasing the work of universities, research centres, and businesses.  Moreover, the event will focus on the five EU Missions designed to tackle global challenges: adapting to climate change, fighting cancer, preserving healthy oceans and water bodies, creating climate-neutral cities, and ensuring soil and food health.  “Scientists, academics, researchers, and startuppers will leave their workplaces for a while and present their activities and achievements to the general public,” the organisers said in the announcement.  Over 60 booths staffed by scientists will offer interactive experiments, multimedia displays, and hands-on experiences with scientific equipment.  The announcement also mentioned that for the first time, science enthusiasts unable to attend in person will be able to stream the event live on the RIF’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.  Finally, it should be noted that the European Researchers’ Night is part of the EU-funded project “Mission Possible,” under the Horizon Europe Programme for Research and Innovation 2021-2027.
