Kazakhstan to select vendor for nuclear power plant construction by June 2025Kazakhstan will have selected a vendor for the construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP) by June of this year, Deputy Minister of Energy Sungat Yesimkhanov said."The results of this process will be summarized and announced at the end of the first half of the year, and a potential vendor will also be selected at the end of the first half of the year," Yesimkhanov said at a Friday press conference of the government.Kazakhstan’s delegation, led by the energy minister, visited all the countries that were identified as potential vendors for NPP construction, he added."There was a list of questions we asked the would-be vendors, who are now sending us their answers," the deputy minister said.On October 6, 2024, Kazakhstan's citizens approved the construction of the NPP in a nationwide referendum. Currently, Kazakhstan is evaluating large-capacity reactor technologies from four suppliers: France, China, Russia, and South Korea. The Ministry of Energy estimates that the cost of one reactor unit is approximately $5 billion. (ICE ALMATY)
