PIF FIRM TENDERS MONOLITH RESORT INFRASTRUCTURE
Saudi Arabia’s Destinations Development Company (DDC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Saudi sovereign wealth vehicle the Public Investment Fund, has issued two new infrastructure development tenders for the Monolith resort in the Al-Ula region. Packages 6a and 6b tenders were issued on 31 December last year with a submission deadline of 9 March. The scope of work for package 6a includes the construction of roads and bridges spanning over 23 kilometres (km) and other associated works, connecting the project with route 375 in Al-Ula. Package 6b covers the construction of about 6km of roads, cut-and-cover tunnels and other associated infrastructure. The overall development, also known as Project W, includes the construction of a 1,000-key Monolith resort on top of an escarpment and associated infrastructure works. Contractors submitted bids for the construction of the Monolith resort in August last year. The development will also include a spa, an amphitheatre, stables, horse-riding areas, a water park, a hilltop area, a sports centre, an augmented reality/virtual reality hub, an observatory and planetarium, and an 18-hole championship golf course. Project W is located on Route 375, which is a 25-minute drive from the town of Al-Ula. In April last year, DDC had awarded an enabling works package for the Monolith resort. The tender was awarded to the local firm Ammico Contracting. In August 2023, DDC issued a request for proposals for the construction of a water supply network for the development. The design-and-build contract for package five of the water supply network is divided into two phases. The first phase covers the connection of Well 13 to tanks known as T2, T3 and T4. The second phase includes the installation of permanent tanks T1, T3, T4 and T5; a labour camp and batching plant; and the connection of Well 14.
