JORDANIAN WOMEN'S ECONOMIC PARTICIPATION GREW TO 14.9% IN 2024-SIGI
The Jordanian Solidarity Is Global Institute (SIGI) reported a "relative" improvement in women's economic participation in Jordan, rising from 12.6% in 2014 to 14.9% in 2024.In a statement on Wednesday, SIGI said this progress coincided with amendment of several labor market-related legislation and the launch of national strategies that aimed to achieve economic empowerment, social protection, and flexible workplace. The SIGI added that these strategies contributed to creating "a more supportive" environment for women's participation, especially following removal of multiple institutional and cultural barriers that previously curbed their entry into the labor market. On future action, SIGI called for providing incentives to the Kingdom's private sector, expanding scope of women-based vocational training, mainly in the governorates, and strengthening their legal protection in the labor market.
