Planting season wraps up without major issues, no reason to expect poor harvest – Grain UnionKazakhstan's spring planting season is nearing completion under favorable weather conditions, with no major problems reported so far, the Grain Union of Kazakhstan said."The planting season is finishing without any major issues. Most regions still have soil moisture. Good rains fell this week in the west of the Kostanay region, and other regions are expecting rain this week as well," said Yevgeniy Karabanov, head of analytics at the Grain Union."It's too early to make harvest forecasts. There's no reason right now to talk about a poor harvest year – the weather will tell us more as we go," he said when asked about potential grain harvest projections for this year.As of June 3, agricultural crops had been planted on 20.9 million hectares, or 88% of the planned area of 23.8 million hectares.Kazakhstan's three main grain-producing regions are the Kostanay, North Kazakhstan and Akmola regions.Kazakhstan harvested 27 million tonnes of grain in 2025, up 2% from the previous year, with yields of 17 centners per hectare (1.7 tonnes per ha). In 2024, farmers harvested 26.5 million tonnes with average yields of 16 centners per hectare (1.6 tonnes per ha). (ICE ALMATY)
