Kazakh Energy Ministry, Shell to launch digital platform for geological explorationKazakhstan’s Energy Ministry, National Geological Service and Shell Kazakhstan have signed a memorandum of cooperation on the study and analysis of hydrocarbon data, the ministry’s press service reported.“The document establishes a platform for joint specialist training and fundamental analysis of subsoil resources,” the Energy Ministry said in a statement released Monday.The partnership focuses primarily on exchanging global best practices and digitizing archival geological information on hydrocarbons, the ministry noted.The memorandum's practical core is a pilot project to develop a modern geographic information system, a digital platform that will allow deep processing and interpretation of accumulated historical geological data“Combining knowledge, experience and technological solutions will help us more effectively unlock the country's resource potential and ensure the sector's systematic development,” Deputy Minister of Energy Yerlan Akbarov said in the statement.Digitalization is expected to significantly expand understanding of the republic’s resource potential and strengthen the industry’s investment appeal.Yerlan Kaliyev, CEO of National Geological Service, said cooperation with Shell will help strengthen the analytical and interpretive framework for hydrocarbon geological data and improve decision-making quality in subsoil use.In turn, Suzanne Coogan, senior vice president and chair of Shell in Kazakhstan, said the company intends to use international experience and modern digital technologies to improve the efficiency of geological exploration in Kazakhstan.
