NATIONAL WATER COMPANY AWARDS RIYADH STP CONTRACT

Saudi Arabia's National Water Company (NWC) has awarded a long-term operation and maintenance (LTOM) contract for the rehabilitation, operation and maintenance of sewage treatment plants (STPs) in Manfouha, Riyadh to Alkhorayef Water and Power Technologies Company (AWPT). The contract duration is 15 years and is worth around $426m. The contract award is in line with NWC’s strategy to open its strategic assets for private-sector investments under the public-private partnership (PPP) agreements. The contract was signed under the patronage of HE Eng. Abdulrahman Abdulmohsen al-Fadley, minister of environment, water and agriculture and chairman between NWC, Eng. Nemer Mohammed Alshebl, NWC CEO, and CEO of AWPT.  The contract aims at the rehabilitation, operation, and maintenance of three STPs in Riyadh (Manfouha STPs complex) with a total treatment capacity of 700,000 cubic metre per day. As part of the contract Alkhorayef Water and Power Technologies Company will invest over  $150m in rehabilitation works, which will improve the operational performance and environmental compliance.  It is the third contract to be awarded as an LTOM Contract under NWC’s LTOM programmw, which is part of its plan for existing STPs. the NWC expects to receive LTOM proposals for the STPs in Heet and Al-Hayer in Riyadh later this month, to be the fourth contract to be awarded with a total sewage treatment capacity of 870,000 cubic metre per day. The company also expects to receive proposals for STPs in the eastern province in Dammam, Khobar and Al-Ahsa with a combined sewage treatment capacity of 1.1 million cubic metre per day, the NWC LTOM program is continuing, as NWC intends to tender (113) existing treatment plants with a total capacity of 2.4 million m3/day starting in 2024.
