Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan interested in buying French fighter jets - mediaKazakhstan and Uzbekistan plan to replace Russian-made MiG and Sukhoi military planes in their Air Forces with European fighter jets, the BFMTV television channel said on Monday, citing several specialized media outlets.Information on such unusual contacts can be confirmed indirectly by visits to France in November 2022 by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev and French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to these countries in early November 2023, the TV channel said.Alongside gas supplies, a number of other issues were also high on the meetings' agenda, BFMTV said, citing information from the financial and economic media outlet La Tribune regarding the frequent visits to Tashkent by the "export team" of French aerospace company Dassault Aviation. Meanwhile, a possible contract with Kazakhstan has been described as a "more remote" prospect, though Dassault Aviation is making such efforts there as well.The TV channel said, citing Dassault Aviation CEO Eric Trappier, that "the geopolitical situation is lining up in favor of France" thanks to countries that "do not want to buy either American or Russian [hardware]."
