Shipyard construction is planned in KazakhstanIt is planned to build a shipyard in Kazakhstan, Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev said.“To develop the merchant fleet, it is planned to construct a domestic shipbuilding plant on the basis of existing production facilities. YDA, Asfat (companies from Turkey - IF-K) and ADP (Abu Dhabi Ports Group) displayed potential interest in implementing the Shipyard project”, the Ministry of Transport said in a statement.According to the Minister of Transport, at the first stage it will be required to build ten new merchant ships, including three tankers, three dry cargo ships and four universal ferries.“Until a Kazakh shipyard is built, the order for construction of a vessel at one of the Caspian shipyards is to be placed. Currently, Kazmortransflot is designing new models of ships,” Karabayev said.According to him, the possibility of financing shipbuilding through the Industrial Development Fund is under review.Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov, instructed to speed up the decision on building a shipyard and on an investor.Regarding the ferries, Smailov said that they will be ordered from foreign manufacturers, and by 2027 there will be four of them.
