Qatar’s Hassad Food and Turkey’s Tiryaki Agro to build a grain processing plant in AstanaKazakhstan’s National Managing Holding Baiterek JSC, Qatar’s Hassad Food and Turkey’s Tiryaki Agro have signed a memorandum of cooperation to build a grain processing plant in Astana, National Company Kazakh Invest said in a press release on Friday.The design capacity of the plant will be up to 250,000 tonnes of wheat and 100,000 tonnes of peas per year, the press release says.To implement the project, Hassad Food will invite Tiryaki Agro from Turkey and Sunrise Foods International from Canada.The expected cost of the project is $200 million.The memorandum was signed during the first official visit of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Qatar this week.Tokayev said at the Kazakh-Qatar investment roundtable in Doha that Kazakhstan “can become a reliable partner in the supply of halal and organic agricultural products to the Qatar market”. The Kazakh president added that Qatar’s Hassad Food intended to build a plant for deep processing of grain and peas in Astana.Qatar’s Hassad Food, established in 2008, is a fully owned subsidiary of Qatar Investment Authority (QIA). Internationally, Hassad invested in key strategic establishments in Australia, Canada, Turkey, Oman and others. In Qatar, Hassad owns multiple subsidiaries that directly manage the company’s key investments.Turkey’s Tiryaki Agro, with its experience of more than 50 years, operates in 25 production facilities across 11 countries, processing and producing rice, pulses, grains, feed, oilseeds, nuts, and organic food.Canada’s Sunrise Food International is the producer and seller of grain products, vegetable oils, seeds and animal feed.
