Tajikistan, Uzbekistan discuss creating large industrial parksA range of issues, including the creation of large industrial parks in Tajikistan, was on the agenda of a Dushanbe meeting of the Tajik-Uzbek intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, co-chaired by Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda and his Uzbek counterpart Abdulla Aripov, the Khovar news agency said."One-on-one talks were held. The parties discussed almost the entire range of topics on the bilateral agenda [...] The Tajik side noted that it stands ready to cooperate with Uzbek industrial enterprises to design and build large industrial parks in Tajikistan," the news agency said.There is enormous untapped potential in the textile and garment industry, joint production of agricultural machinery and equipment, food processing, the mining and metal industry, the manufacturing of equipment for the renewable energy sector, pharmaceuticals, the production of medications and construction materials, information technologies and electronics, the parties said at the talks in the presence of the two countries' delegations, instructing the agencies in charge of these issues to explore ways to further advance this cooperation, Khovar said.Mutual trade between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan surpassed $500 million in 2023, and Uzbekistan is Tajikistan's fifth largest trading partner, the participants in the commission's meeting said.Rasulzoda, for his part, emphasized the rich historical traditions and creative interaction shared by the two countries.Aripov, in turn, said that Tajikistan is a close neighbor, a true friend and a reliable strategic partner and ally for Uzbekistan."It is gratifying that mutual trade has increased in recent years. Individual attention should be given to intensifying the Uzbek-Tajik investment fund's activities. To this end, we propose arranging regular dialogue between our ministries to coordinate this work," Aripov said.A protocol of the intergovernmental commission was signed after the meeting.
