Saudi ACWA Power shows interest in renewable energy project in Western KazakhstanACWA Power from Saudi Arabia has expressed interest in participating in yet another renewable energy project in Kazakhstan, while also committing to assist in mitigating the aftermath of floods in the nation, according to statements from the Ministry of Energy.This proposition was discussed during the participation of Kazakhstan's Energy Minister, Almasadam Satkaliyev, in a special session of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh."During the meeting, Satkaliev met with ACWA Power's chairman, Mr. Mohammad A. Abunayyan, who expressed interest in developing a renewable energy project in the Caspian region of Kazakhstan," the statement says.The specifics of the project were not disclosed. However, the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan noted that given the country's aim to link the energy systems of Western Kazakhstan with the Unified Energy System, this project holds great promise.ACWA Power is also keen on implementing Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) projects with desalination and exploring green hydrogen development.Additionally, the company has pledged support in addressing flood consequences in Kazakhstan.ACWA Power plans to construct a 1 GW wind power plant in southeast Kazakhstan's Zhetysu region. This agreement was reached in March 2024 after a meeting between Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Saudi Arabia's Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud. The wind farm will be located in the Dzungarian Gate area, with construction set to begin in 2025 and completion expected by 2029.ACWA Power specializes in renewable energy, with a focus on power generation and desalinated water.
