ABBAZIA Casa Vinicola

Casa Vinicola ABBAZIA is located in Santo Stefano Belbo, a small village between Monferrato, Langhe and Roero. Our own vineyards, exposed to the warm sun, are perfectly positioned on hillsides that have been producing quality wines since the 9th century. The beauty of this landscape is recognised by UNESCO. The soils consist mainly of limestone and clay marls with sand veins. We are a family-run winery. Since 1848, the family has been transforming the bunches of our grapes into glasses of sparkling wine. The name Abbey derives from the historic 12th century Benedictine monastery on which the winery was founded. The entire production process is guaranteed by HACCP and since 2011 third-party bodies (IFS and BRC) regularly certify our quality standards. As a confirmation of our 'know-how' in sparkling wine production, we are members of the 'Consorzio di Tutela del Prosecco DOC' and the 'Consorzio dell'Asti DOCG'.

ASTI Spumante is undoubtedly the world’s best-known sweet sparkling wine.
ASTI DOCG is made entirely from Moscato bianco grapes. Benefiting from the chalky soil and the microclimate typical of hilly areas, this agricultural product is based on the traditional Piedmontese methods of spumante production, drawing on expertise in the field of winemaking and using techniques of cultivation and harvesting that ensure the preservation of all the aromatic qualities of the grapes.
It has a characteristic musky flavour, well-balanced sweetness and acidity and moderate alcohol content. The intense aroma has hints of acacia, wisteria, orange blossom and mountain honey, and a spicy undertone with notes of elder flower, yarrow and bergamot.

Prosecco DOC is unique for its origin and style. The vines that produce
Prosecco are found exclusively in northeast Italy, in Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia, between the Dolomites and the Adriatic Sea. The particular
interaction between the climate, the soil, and the winemaking tradition gives rise to Prosecco DOC, a unique wine. With a floral and fruity aroma and a fresh, light, and lively taste, Prosecco DOC is the symbol of simple, refined Italian sparkling wine, intrinsically tied to the unmistakable Made in Italy lifestyle.
More than 20 years ago alongside with many colleagues from Veneto region we understood the growing interest of consumers for drier sparkling wines, starting to produce prosecco when it was a simple IGT wine. As a confirmation of our “know-how” and also to the historical tradition to make prosecco well we are members of the Consortium of Prosecco since its foundation.

MOSCATO d’ASTI DOCG is one of the most characteristic products of the Piedmontese wine tradition. The wine has a distinctively intense musky aroma of the grapes it is made from, a delicate flavour that is reminiscent of wisteria and linden, peach and apricot, with hints of sage, lemon and orange blossom. It has some residual sugar and a low alcohol content. MOSCATO d’ASTI DOCG is not a sparkling wine, as it only undergoes partial fermentation in pressure tanks. Fermentation is terminated when an alcohol content of about 5.5% by vol. is reached. The use of cold chain technology in the production process means the aromas and flavours of the grapes are preserved and the product can be stabilised, ready for storage and transportation.

We are in the center of the so called “moscato valley”, we are surrounded by vineyards defined as heroic because of the steepness of these hills. The beauty of this landscape is recognized by UNESCO since 2014.
Furthermore, the morphology is mixed because of sedimentary and marine origin. In the steep rocks of the Langhe, you can still see fish fossils and layers of different materials enclosed in an enchanting landscape and with a very mild climate. This is why UNESCO wanted to protect this landscape as a whole.
This type of soil with predominantly made of sandston, mixed with limestone, sand and plenty of mineral salts. This mix gives to the wines complexity, elegance and lightness.
The Moscato black is an aromatic grape with an intense rose note. This grape is used as a blend with white moscato in order to obtain the moscato rosè sparkling. The color is shiny pink. On the nose is very fruity and floral, predominates the rose scent. On the mouth is sweet, aromatic. There is good balance between the alcolic part, the acidity, and the sweetness. Is not cloying. After a long working day for a moment of carefreeness with friends it is ideal. Serve it in a wide glass and very chilled.
