Dandy's

Our story began in 1974, when we were still watching black and white TV.
At that time, apprentices were taught to make glasses completely by hand. Filing, retouching, and finishing them with the fine cloth, curing the couplings, mounting the hinges with the riveted nails,
defining the fit.
The scraping blade is passed over the temples to remove any edges. And wheels, wheels, and more wheels to mirror shine the frames.
Immense effort, but in the evening after a hard day’s work,, we were satisfied that we had learnt something and put something of ourselves into every frame.
Once we had learned how to make them by hand, they are passed via the pantographs for the frames to be cut and shaped, to the animators for the temples to be animated, and to the other machinery to fold the nose pads and the end pieces contoured.
These were intense years where production was coninually invented and improved. Acetate lends itself well to being worked, glued, retouched, moulded, and modified.
Then all of a sudden, new technology, electronic, digitally controlled work centres arrived which considerably increased the company’s production capacity.
Dandy’s collection was born from the passion and experience acquired over 45 years working in the field; from the desire to make eyewear in a serene and pleasant manner.

Company Profile

Dandy’s Classic glass frames are characterised by the fi nal polish. Cellulose acetate is smooth to the touch and velvet-soft on the face, typical sensations of quality Italian materials.

Limited Editions are models which are unique in shape and colour, produced in numbered series that will not be restocked.

The crown jewel of Dandy’s collection are the frames produced from sheets that have been left unrefi ned, just as they come from the supplier, from the English “rough”. Cellulose acetate is hand-refi ned using milling and the scraping blade to highlight the qualities of the materials as well, as the design of the frames.
