POLAND:RETAIL SALES DOWN IN APRIL - STATS OFFICE

In April 2023 retail sales at constant prices were by 7.3% lower than the year before (against an increase of 19.0% in April 2022).Compared with March 2023 an increase by 0.1% in retail sales was recorded.In the period of January-April[2] 2023 sales decreased y/y by 4.8% (in 2022 a growth of 10.8%).In April 2023, the largest decrease in retail sales (at constant prices) compared with the corresponding period of 2022 was reported by units from the group “others” (by 17.3% against an increase of 21.2% the year before). A significantly drop in sales was also recorded in the groups: “newspapers, books, other sale in specialized stores” (by 15.6%), “furniture, radio, TV and household appliances” (by 14.7%), “solid, liquid and gaseous fuels” (by 14.5%). Units trading in food, beverages and tobacco products noted a decline (by 8.0%). Among the presented groups, a slight increase in sales was reported only by entities classified in the group “textiles, clothing, footwear” (by 0.6%). (ICE VARSAVIA)
