POLAND: INCREASE IN FEMALE LABOUR FORCE PARTICIPATION

The Polish Economic Institute (PIE) has published a report “The situation of women in Poland from the socio-economic perspective” and the report shows that in 2021 the labour force participation rate for women aged 15-64 stood at 64 percent, which was above the EU average. According to the report, in 2009 ca. 6.81 million Polish women were professionally active, compared to 7.37 million in 2021, which represents an increase by 560,000 (8 percent). Commenting on the report, Aneta Kiełczewska, deputy head of the behavioural economics department at the PIE, points out that the increase in the female labour force participation accounted for ca. two-fifths of Poland’s economic growth, which averaged at 3.49 percent y/y in the 2009-2021 period.
