RED SEA GLOBAL LAUNCHES CARBON-NEGATIVE CONCRETE PROJECT

Saudi gigaproject developer Red Sea Global (RSG) has signed an agreement with US-based Partanna to develop a pilot project for the manufacturing, delivery and installation of an initial 11,000 carbon-negative pavers. Partanna’s technology not only prevents carbon emissions but actively draws carbon from the atmosphere. The pavers will be installed at RSG’s landscape nursery, the largest of its kind in the region, covering 1 million square metres. The nursery aims to cultivate over 30 million plants by 2030 to landscape RSG’s The Red Sea Project and Amaala destinations. This partnership follows a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two companies at Cop27 in Egypt last year. As part of the agreement, both parties will explore future pilot projects, including applications of Partanna’s ocean-resilient concrete as a viable infrastructure solution for coral reef restoration projects. Partanna’s solution uses recycled ocean water brine in its concrete, making it more suitable and durable for under-ocean conditions than traditional concrete. The Red Sea Project is planned to run solely on renewable energy from its opening. It is preparing to welcome its first guests this year with the inauguration of the first three hotels and the initial phase of the international airport. The five solar farms for phase one are 98.6 per cent complete, with over 750,000 panels already installed. (ICE RIYADH)
